This entry for the Reader's Challenge uses images from the Issue 51 challenge, a little mountainous backdrop from an earlier challenge (the picture might have been called "Still Waters"), and a clipped out pic of my dog in the lower right. I copied and changed the angle of the girls arm slightly towards the midline of her body so that it would match the perspective of the rest of the picture a little better. I was trying to create an atmosphere of simple joys and pleasures. I created brushes from some Photoshop default custom shapes for the butterflies, notes, and gradient circles, used lines (twirled, waved, warped, and outer glowed) for the lighting effects, and replaced the sky with just a blue-white cloud-rendered area. After I'd flattened everything, I upped the saturation a bit. There is absolutley no depth of meaning to this particular piece. I started with duotoning the model from a REader's Challenge, added the 'flying saucer' a couple of weeks later, and then it just sat there for many weeks. I was looking at some old Reader's Challenge photos and saw the buildings and thought - there's the background I needed." So, I finally finished it. Another Readers' challenge - this one submitted, and I was happily surprised to see it in print in the magazine. When I saw the blackbird image, at some point I thought of the old Beatles tune, which led to this image. My mind frequently goes to slightly old fashioned sci-fi images. Just used repeated reductions - although I did have to put the models arms on separate layers. I used the fish tank image as part of the background, and used various shapes and blend modes for the rest. A submission for Readers Challenge, using images from Issue 39. I've been wanting to do something in this style, sort of Nouveau-esque. The flowers are from my own photos, with plentyof filters applied. Based on image from issue 40. I was going for something moodier than usual. I used several old readers challenge images for the piece - an old blurred light image (inverted) for the sky, a falling piece of glacier for the smoke. The clutter in the air are OCR characters faded and warped. I think the background needs more to it - a big ol' clock or crumpled calandar pages or such. I used the masks, the palm tree, and the camel pics from the Issue 52 challenge set, along with a picture from issue 42 Challenge set (entitled 'sunset') for the background. Basically, I used a lot of posterization to get effects. The result reminds me a little of an old label. Based on a Reader's Challenge image in Issue 41. In working on the surfer, I actually found a use for the plastic wrap filter. If I were to redo it - which I might - the stones in the ring wouldbe more of an orange or rust color.
