I&#39;ve been concentrating on digital portrait painting. My girlfriend&#39;s sister is a dog person. The 3 dogs in this image she has either owned or owns. She is a serious contender in agility competitions to the point that the middle dog, Maja, is a world champion. The latest addition to the family is Ally (to the right) and Tessa (the lab on the left) is no longer with us. I painted this in CS5 for the family as a Xmas present. After the sinking of Thunderchild, Earth&#39;s last chance of survival sinks with her. In the words of HG Wells-"Cylinder following cylinder with nothing and no one to stop them. The Earth now belonged to the Martians." This digital painting was done as a favour for a friend of mine. These two dogs used to be his, but died recently. It&#39;s Zach&#39;s birthday next week and I will email them to him then. I&#39;ve been working on a series of posters that cna be used either as posters or screensavers-All under the heading of "Where No Mas Has Gone Before" I spotted this tutorial on planetphotoshop.com by Corey Baker using the 3D tools in CS5...I thought I&#39;d give it a try and update it slightly as well, by adding a cool background. The original tutorial can be found here http://www.planetphotoshop.com/dimensions-of-time.html This was my main entry for the 50th edition competition My fiance&#39;s 13 year old nephew recently asked me to put together a simple poster design on the subject of his favoutite football team. I was toying with entering this in the Reader&#39;s Challenge but I am not so sure. One criticsm I had was that it was very dark and some features are&#39;nt clear enough. I used the sinister masks pic from the CD and a room pic from stock. The cowls are from deviantart.com (by lindowlyn) I played around with layer masks and other stuff to achieve the effect I was looking for. What do you think? It&#39;s been a while since I posted anything. First there was the hard drive crash I suffered back in September and then I decided to embark on a new picture. This is it, so far. It&#39;s not complete as I have to put in one or a few vehicles, but this what I&#39;ve managed to achieve.<br /><br />Before I start getting into the how&#39;s etc, I want to throw a few credits out there. First, textures and other pictures are by courtesy of CGTextures and Stock Exchange. Also the inspiration for this picture came from 2 sources. One is a picture in issue 48 of Advanced PS mag by Steffan Morrell, called District 75 and the other is the article and tutorial in Issue 49 about faking 3D in Photoshop.<br /><br />So, I lost count of how many layers I used to make this. <br />It&#39;s combination of airbrushing, texture layering and layer mask. I drew the scene first on paper with pencil, to give me a rough idea. I don&#39;t own a scanner so I used the next best thing and photographed the pencil image and uploaded it into Photoshop. <br />I never intended the drawing to be the absolute in this and to get a better idea of perspective I used the Vanishing Point filter to draw out a grid that would allow me to create better lines.<br />Each building was tackled individually, handling each building a floor at a time. In most case a template was drawn using the pen tool and then filled in with a color that would sit well under the texture I would use. Most of the time I used the Overlay blending mode and then added a layer mask. In some cases I adjusted the angle of the texture, especially the roads and brick textures to align to the perspective of the building.<br />I added pictures of neon signs and graffiti to bring a kind of life to the piece. The Studio 5 was designed by yours truly and the sky background was from my own stock.<br /><br />As always, any comments and advice is welcome. The completed piece will be posted in a few days. The title popped into my head one night before going to sleep. The image kept me awake all night. <br /><br />A collection of stock photos and brushes, plus some filters and layer masks. The girl in the corner supplied by&nbsp; lady_symphonia at devialtArt.com<br /><br />I wanted to create a dream-like composition hence the opacity reductions...If anyone has comments that could maybe improve this I would be most grateful as I am not sure that it&#39;s complete yet. In a former life I sold feature advertising for a local newspaper. One feature we did was titled &quot;Make A Will&quot; and the target advertisers were lawyers. I asked one of my clients if he would advertise and he said he would but he had no time to discuss the artwork for the ad and would I take care of it.<br />I originally used a clipart picture of a old watch, the type that would hang from a chain on a waistcoat and drew the Roman numerals flooding out of the watchface. I gave the design to the art department who came up with the ad. The slogan that ran with the ad was &quot;Time is running out. Make a will today.&quot;<br />A few days after the ad ran, the lawyer called me to ask me what the ad was all about. So I explained the concept of time running out. I asked him if he was okay with it and he said that he had rung because he was getting flooded with phone calls asking what the ad was about. He managed to get quite a bit of business from it. Ah the power of advertising.<br /><br />So after that long story, this is an updated version of that ad design. It&#39;s my watch, and I used the liquified filter and the smudge tool. The finished article. The vehicles are based on actual concept cars, I just airbrushed out the wheels and made a few minor adjustments in order to make them look a little more futuristic looking. I drew upon several pictures to create this. Messed about with filters and layer masks.&nbsp; The original title was &quot;The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe&quot; but I thought it was bit long.
